Lasik Eye Surgery FAQ:

I am thinking about getting done but I am wary of the risks? Was it worth it? Would you do it again?

Hi,
LASIK is a relatively safe procedure. Only requirement is that the power of spectacles of the patient should be stable for at least 1 year before undergoing LASIK. The risk of infection, over correction, under correction, flap displacement are there, but are very minimal i.e. around 2%.
Regards,
Dr. Gupta

horrible!!!!!!
My cornea was left in an irregular shape that I had to get Rigid Contact Lenses to be able to see clearly.

I was about 20/250 before Lasik surgery last year. The procedure was painless, probably due to the Valium they gave me. The ride home (as a passenger, of course) was fairly uncomfortable, mainly due to light sensitivity. The doctor gave me dark goggles, but the light was still too bright. I was in some pain once I got home (maybe 3 hours post procedure), but I had some left over Vicodin, and took two doses of that. The Vicodin took the edge off. Slept fine that night. Woke up the next morning, and I COULD SEE FINE! Hallelujah! I was jazzed up about that. I drove myself to my one day check up (an 2 hour round trip) with no problems. For that check up, I was seeing at 20/25, less than 24 hours after the surgery. I went to work that afternoon (doing ultrasound which really requires you to use your eyes). For my one week check up, I was seeing between 20/20 and 20/15. Other than the touch of pain I had post procedure, before I went to bed for the night, I had no other problems. I would do it again in a heartbeat! No more glasses, no more contacts, no more cleaning solutions and saline!

Just one other thing….I went to a doctor who used computerized, laser equipment. No knives were involved. But, it cost me a pretty penny. I paid $5500 for both eyes, but I was not comfortable going to a doctor that advertised in the newspaper for $500 per eye. Sometimes you get what you pay for! Good luck to you!

Both my husband and I had LVC this summer. He had LASIK and I had PRK. Both of us have had very good outcomes. He just had his three month postop and was 20/15 and 20/20. At my 6 week followup, I was 20/15- and 20/20.

He had some irritation for a few hours after the surgery, but after that, just dry eye symptoms that cleared with artificial tears that were recommended by our surgeon. He is so happy with his result.

With my PRK, I had a longer healing time and more discomfort, but definitely worth it! I’m 2 months out.

If we had it to do over, we would have our LVCs again.

The risks are very low. Just be sure to research your surgeon and ask questions! I walked in with a list of about 20 questions during my consultation. Do not go with a ‘deal’ surgeon…you want someone with experience and who also keeps up with continuing education on the most up to date technology.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to contact me through Y! Answers. I’d be glad to answer anything specific you are concerned about thru our personal experiences.

I just did last week. All my friends told me is fine and the surgery only took 10min. So i thought should be alright. During the surgery, i got freak out. U can see the sugeon cutting your eye, putting eye drop and do suctioning. The whole procedure took 10min but i feel like 1 hour. But when u start to see object clearly from far, it definitly worth doing Lasik.

So worth it. I would do it again in a second.
Might be the best thing I ever did for myself. My vision, my self-esteem, my confidence, and life in general all improved drastically when I could finally see – see well for the first time since first grade.
