Lasik Eye Surgery FAQ:
I had lasik done in Jan 08. The results weren’t good. I need glasses now. I had a lot of problems with eye dryness. It was extremely uncomfortable for months, but now I seem to have it under control.

I want to get lasik done again.. a “touch up” so I don’t have to wear glasses anymore.
my question to those of you who have had lasik more than once: were you satisified? Did it fix your vision 100%?

I haven’t had LASIK, but worked for many years in a laser eye clinic. (Still wear contacts though!!)
Re-treatments (or top-ups) generally have very good results, but make sure you check with your surgeon how much cornea will be left over afterwards.
For example, the average cornea is around 550 microns thick. If you remove about 40 microns in the original treatment (depends on your prescription) then you will be left with just over 500 microns. A re-treatment will remove even more cornea – about 20-30microns.
That is all well and fine, but in another 10 years you may need another top-up and that again will remove more cornea.
Most surgeons will not operate if your cornea is under 480microns thick, so make sure you are leaving yourself enough cornea for any future re-treats.
Just something worth checking out. Hope that helps!
